Adobe CS3 Windows Error: The Licensing Subsystem Has Failed Catastrophically
The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall or call customer support. Catastrophically? Really, they couldn’t think of a gentler way of putting this?
Well, As catastrophes go this one is threat level green; not all that catastrophic. This error is similar to the Licensing for this product has stopped working error message in that they both point to a problem with your local licensing information. In this case the error tends to mean that your Licensing Service has been shut off.
Solution: Make sure your FLEXnet Licensing Service is enabled. If it’s not then your computer can’t ping Adobe’s and you won’t be able to use your CS3 software.
1. Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services
a. if you don’t see Administrative Tools under Control Panel then switch to ‘Classic View’

2. Double click on ‘FLEXnet Licensing Service’

3. Change the Startup type to Automatic, press apply, then Start, then ok

4. Launch InDesign

Hi, I’m still having problems getting this to work…
I have NO Flexnet folder and FLEXnet is not appearing in the local services!

If you don’t have a flexnet folder then the program isn’t installed correctly. You could repair, reinstall or uninstall then run the cs3cleanscript utility then install.

I moved my program files folder to the E drive to give the C drive some extra space. I changed some registry keys so the system would recognize the new location. all my programs work except this one. how do I get adobe products to recognize the new directory? If I reinstall, it’s probably not gonna work -_-

Installing to your E drive is your best, and possibly only, option.

Sehr geehrter CS3 Support,
Illustrator CS3 funktioniert dann einwandfrei.
Was können wir noch machen??
Mit freundlichen Grüßen

no matter how terrible people act, we don’t have a right to judge them. We are just to express our minds, and don’t have to pay attention what other people look like, what’s their real face. It doesn’t matter for me, if someone will say anything about me, I know what I really deserve, and what kind of person I really am.

If youre running on Mac OS X and using TimeMachine, just start TimeMachine, get the Flex Folder* from the past before the Error and replace the current Flex Folder. It works, nothing to reinstall.
* ( Library/Preferences/FLEXnet Publisher/ )

Hello, I’ve tried to do all what you all said but my Photoshop CS3 still isn’t working, I’ve also tried to reinstall it, but that doesn’t work either. Does anyone have a suggestion?

For those of you who are on Mac OSX. I was able to fix the problem by simply running Disk Utility and fixing permissions. All the other options, including deleting the Flexnet files and PCD files did not work for me. After, the permissions were fixed and I launched a CS3 app it just asked me to verify the serial number and I was off to the races. Hope this helps.
