Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit 2, Quick Fix

We’ve written a few articles up over the last month on the pesky issue of being asked to “Please Insert Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit 2 to Continue Installation“. Recently we’ve had a reader write in with an alternate suggestion that I feel is worth sharing.

Alan noted that the installer is looking for installation media that doesn’t appear to be located on the DVD. While the installer can’t find the Adobe Extendscript Toolkit 2 media it can be easily downloaded from Adobe.

 

Solution:

  1. Download Adobe’s ExtendScript Toolkit 2 for Mac
  2. Begin installation of your CS3 product
  3. When you get the message to “Please insert Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit 2″ double click on the downloaded dmg file.

That should allow you to continue on with your installation/repair.

    This seems to have worked for me, but Adobe will only allow you to install one of their apps at a time, so I had to cancel my DW reinstall in order to finish the install of the toolkit, then start the DW reinstall all over again. Very disappointed that there is no clean “uninstall” for DW CS3.

    It worked! Thanks!! (I needed to add Version Cue to my Design Premium– for some reason it wasn’t installed the first time around. Did it twice so I could add Flash too; same thing.)
    My question is where to put the Toolkit now.

    The only way I could get it to work on mine was to mount the .dmg file before I started the installation of Dreamweaver. It’s frustrating that this happens. I’ve been trying to figure this out for about an hour now. Should be a quick link to download and mount it rather than having to do it manually. Thanks for the tip!

    Thanks so much for this tip! I’ve been wrestling with repairing Indesign for two days now and this seems to have worked. My only suggestion would be to clarify: you don’t *run* the ExtendScript after you double-click the dmg file; you just double-click it so it mounts and then click “okay” on the CS3 installer. Sounds like other people had that problem too. :)

    This worked for my re-install of DW. Kind of annoying that I had to call Adobe about it. Kinda interesting that they directed me to download the toolkit from this website.

    Seriously, they told you to come here? That’s pretty funny. One of our writers did work in Adobe tech support for a while, so I think we still have some friends there =)

    It looks like this is working. Thanks. What I would ask is why on earth has adobe not corrected the problem. It seems to me that when we spend thousands of dollars on software they should fix bugs. Adobe service has gotten sooo bad.

    As the media would’ve been mastered before this issue was found, new media may well have this fixed. However, the current stock is presumably not manufactured on an ‘as needed’ basis. However, I’d agree that at $3000+ for the master collection, it shouldn’t be this way!

    This worked for the first problem. Don’t forget to drag the toolkit to the Adobe folder on your desktop and the installation will continue. It will stop again and ask to Please insert Adobe Illustrator CS3 to continue installation…this is where I get stuck..any tips?

    I don’t know about Illustrator, but for DW, I just put both the DW and Toolkit dmg files on the desktop and left them opened. Then I ran the Setup.app program on the DW disk and the installer automatically transitioned from “Disk 1 of 2″ to “Disk 2 of 2″ and then to completion (after a very long time).

    I did all this because of a license manager failure that prevented both PS and DW from working. Thankfully just reinstalling DW fixed the problem for both.

    Good grief - under deadline. Had a major crash this morning. Re-installed my OS and then went to re-install CS3 and got this error message. Called Adobe. Ended up on the phone with “Kevin” in India and he told me that I had to call tech support during normal working hours on Monday (no support for this simple fix on weekends. Really!) So I googled the error message and got this site and was relieved to find this simple fix. THANKS! (Maybe “KEVIN” in INDIA should be given this url!)

    i was able to leave the Acrobat installer running while downloading the extendscript toolkit 2 files. After downloading, the disk image appears on the desktop (like a disk mounted). I was able to click OK to continue as if it was a CD or DVD. Then reinsert the installer CD. So far it looks like it’s working. HOWEVER: I wonder why (1) Acrobat fails to launch - for no apparent reason, after working fine - forcing a reinstall (four times to date), and (2) Why does InDesign crash when I export to PDF 50% of the time? It seems these two issues are related (?). Does anyone else have problems with ID3 crashing when exporting to PDF.
