Adobe Releases InDesign 5.02 Update
Adobe released the InDesign 5.02 update on 1/22/08. You can download the update for the Mac by clicking here or for the PC by clicking here. There was a bit of a delay between the release and my posting about it, maybe next time Adobe won’t rudely put out an update on my fiance’s birthday. As the second major update since the release of InDesign 5 some major problems have actually been resolved. You can view the full release notes by clicking here (pdf) or see the basics, as summarized below.
What the update fixes:
This update fixes known issues with Anchored Objects, Character Alignment, Step and Repeat, Indexing and Table of Contents, Text and Fonts, Dictionaries, Color, Scripting, Graphics Import/Export, InDesign Interchange files (INX), XML, Library files, and Printing, as well as other miscellaneous issues.
Does not fix:
10.5.1 Leopard/InDesign CS3 compatibility problems. Users are unable to hide InDesign CS3 using the cmd+h keyboard shortcut. InDesign CS3 may unexpectedly quit when using the Place, Save, Save As or Export commands using either the OS or Adobe dialog boxes.
It looks like we’re headed in the right direction. Sometime, in the not too distant future, I’ll be able to be an updated Mac user and an InDesigner without having all kinds of problems specific to Mac/InDesign Interaction. I’ve been waiting for this day since the Intel Mac was released and it’s nearly here.
