InDesign Font Size in Parentheses?

When you group objects and then scale them you will then end up with 2 sets of font sizes. One will be your original font size and the one in parentheses is your new font size, after scaling. This can get a bit confusing and, in my opinion, it’s best to do away with the parantheses altogether.

While Adobe states that, “If you scale the text and the Character toolbar shows two font size entries, then the only way to fix the text is to copy and paste the text, not the text frame, into a new text frame.” Sounds good, but not true. There is a way around this, although it’s a bit of a pain.

Solution:

  1. Ungroup the objects by selecting the grouping then going to Object > Ungroup

  2. Select the text box you wish to change and then select Scale Attributes from the fly-out menu of the Control palette.

This will leave you with only your actually font size and get rid of the original font size.
