InDesign Freezes at startup: Initializing the SING gaiji system (Mac)

The Sing Gaiji system is involved in Asian characters and fonts. It allows for additional glyphs that aren’t primary to a font set. For a better explanation of what the Sing Gaiji system is refer to the article on it at Adobe.com.

If InDesign freezes at startup and what is displayed on the screen is; Initializing SING Gaiji system then follow the steps below to resolve the issue.

Solution:

  1. Delete the Sing Gaiji folder. If you don’t use any Asian fonts and want to resolve this quickly then this is the solution for you.HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe select the SING folder and delete it.

You will now be able to launch InDesign. I recommend this solution for a quick fix and suggest you further troubleshoot later when you have more time in case you find yourself using Asian fonts in the future.

  2. Set proper permissions to the SING folder. Everyone will need Read/Write access in order to resolve this issue.
    1. Navigate to the sing folder at HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe and select the SING folder.
    2. get info (apple + I)
    3. Expand the ownership and permissions section
    4. Make sure Read and Write access is given to; owner, group and others.
    5. click apply
    6. start InDesign

Hm… I have deleted the SING folder. Reboot. Restart InDesign : it just makes a new SING folder in the application data/adobe folder… What then??

I’ve reinstalled all my cs3 programs. I had the same startup problem with InDesign before - but last time it helped to delete the Sing folder - but not this time…???

  2. Waunga Says:

Forgot to say that I’m on PC Windows XP - and no other software problems…

  3. Zervas Says:

    Try deleting singmeta.dat at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\SING\Datastore
If that doesn’t work I should be doing a XP version of this article in the next couple of days.
