Invalid value for parameter

This error occurs when you attempt to create a PDF from an InDesign CS3 INDD using acrobat. Technically this is an acrobat error but it only affects users of InDesign. Some work-arounds for this issue include printing to PDF from within InDesign or convert to PDF from within InDesign.

If you insist on creating the PDF from Within Adobe Acrobat then you’ll need to change the default job option. Job Options; Standard, PDF/A-1b:2005 and Oversized Pages have all been known to cause this problem. The biggest issue is that the ‘Standard’ setting is the installed default so Adobe Acrobat 8 and Adobe InDesign CS3 don’t work together as shipped.

Solution:

  1. Change the default job option for InDesign (INDD) files.
    1. Open Acrobat 8 and make sure you don’t have any PDFs open. Select Edit > Preferences…Acrobat 8 Preferences
    2. Select ‘Convert to PDF’ > InDesign > Edit Settings…
      Acrobat 8 Preference Window
    3. Select a PDF setting other than Standard, PDF/A-1b:2005 or Oversized Pages and click on ‘OK’Adobe PDF Job Options
    4. Press ‘OK’ again and close Acrobat. The job setting you just selected will be your new default for converting InDesign (INDD) files to Adobe PDF.
  2. If you don’t want to change your job options in Acrobat you could instead export to PDF from InDesign
    1. Open up the InDesign file you wish to convert to PDF
    2. File > ExportExport to PDF from InDesign
    3. Make sure Adobe PDF is selected for ‘Save as Type’ and press ‘Save’Save as Type
    4. Choose the PDF settings you want and the select ‘Export’Export to PDF
  3. A final alternative is to Print to PDF
    1. File > Print
    2. Choose Adobe PDF as your printer and click ‘Print’Print to PDF

That should do it for you, one problem with three working solutions.
