Manage Fonts in InDesign CS3 (Windows XP)
InDesign users tend to use more fonts than the average bear. Fonts are a key component to good design, whether it be web design or print work. Because of this its important to actively think of font use and have a variety of fonts at hand. Here at InDesign Help we encourage the broadening of your font-o-sphere by directing you to a new font every week.
That being said; you can have too many fonts, they can cause problems, they slow down your system and delay the launching of font using programs. I’m not saying it’s not great to have access to thousands of fonts but chances are you don’t need them all on your system at once. Just remember, one corrupted font can ruin your whole day as it can keep products like InDesign, Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat from even launching. Our recommendation is to have lots of fonts available but don’t install fonts universally that you only use with a few select programs.
How to Install fonts for all Creative Suite 3 Products:
1. Start > My Computer
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Fonts

3. Drop the font in the ‘fonts’ folder
4. The font should now be available in all your cs3 products the next time you launch.
How to install fonts just for Adobe InDesign CS2/CS3:
1. Start > My Computer
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3\Fonts

3. Paste your font into the ‘Fonts’ folder.
4. Launch InDesign
If the font doesn’t appear after launching InDesign its probably just a matter of deleting your adobefnt10.lst or adobefnt11.lst files and then relaunching InDesign.
Happy InDesigning

Someone who calls himself “squrrl2007@hotmail.com” reported that this web page added a virus to his computer. It seems mistaken. Has anyone noticed anything fishy with this site?

YES! McAfee alerted me of a script that tried to install a trojan virus when I came to the page. Luckily for me, it caught the virus and didn’t allow it to run. However, others may not be as lucky. The virus was detected as the “JS/Downloader-AUD” name.

Is it possible to run the common\fonts folder from a network drive so that more than one user can access exactly the same fonts on seperate machines?
