The serial number you provided is not valid. Please check your serial number and re-enter it.

This error happens on Windows machines after you’ve already installed the program (InDesign CS2 or CS3). It actually has nothing to do with an invalid serial number but rather with your permissions to write to a certain folder. With the proper write privilege to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents you will be unable to run InDesign CS3.

Solution:

1. Uninstall InDesign
2. Start > Run type CMD and press ‘OK’
3. Type the following
   1. C: then hit ‘enter’
   2. cd “\documents and settings” hit enter
   3. Type cacls “All Users” /T /E /C /G administrators:F and hit enter
   4. Close out of the command prompt.
4. Install InDesign

This should fix the “please personalize” issue
